Aug. 28-30 – American Legion National Convention – Minneapolis, MN At the 93rd National Convention of the American Legion, Teresa had the extroadinary opportunity to take the stage immediately preceding President Barack Obama. She thanked our brave servicemen and women for their courageous efforts and spoke on the importance of supporting our military and their families here at home. She also shared the history of the Miss America Organization’s commitment to the military throughout the decades, and our support of active duty service members and veterans that continues just as strongly today. The crowd embraced Teresa and honored her with a standing ovation. Later, Teresa shook hands with President Obama and met with him backstage for photos and enjoyed a brief conversation.

Aug. 17-21 – MAOTeen Pageant – Orlando, FL Teresa was in Orlando for the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Pageant, where she participated in exciting events such as filming a commercial at Walt Disney World, attending a special reception at a magnificent estate, and hosting the preliminary and final nights of the MAO Teen Pageant! Teresa was thrilled to meet the entire 2012 Miss America Class and of course, to meet her new little sister from Florida – Miss America’s Outstanding Teen 2012 Elizabeth Fechtel!

Aug. 13 – Amway Garden Build – Cypress, CA Teresa Scanlan spent her Saturday in California with the Cypress Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Amway volunteers. Together, they built a Positive Sprouts Garden in Cypress, California. The kids had lots of fun and Teresa had a great time giving back to their community!

Aug. 10 – Miracle Treat Day – New York City, NY Teresa promoted Dairy Queen® Miracle Treat Day in NYC, by conducting several national TV and radio interviews, including Fox & Friends. She also visited patients at PSE&G Children’s Specialized Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ, where she handed out free Dairy Queen® Blizzards to promote the special fundraising event.

July 17-24 – Joseph Ribkoff European Media Tour – UK and Germany Teresa ended July with a trip abroad to serve as a fashion correspondent for Joseph Ribkoff in the United Kingdom and Germany. Teresa was interviewed by prominent media outlets such as: Hello! Magazin , Daily Telegraph , The Bild, and Frankfurter Neue Presse . Teresa was a fabulous representative of Joseph Ribkoff and the Miss America Organization to many fashion reporters in London, through performing many interviews and participating in seven fashion shows in various German cities. She had a wonderful time!

July 14-17 – Oregon Trail Days – Gering, Nebraska Teresa was in her hometown of Gering, Nebraska to participate in Oregon Trail Days Events. She had a busy weekend speaking at a Pioneer luncheon, singing God Bless the USA at a concert, participating in the annual parade and meeting hundreds of fans. Teresa was presented with the stamp cancellation designed for her by the Gering post office. She then sang a beautiful and inspiring arrangement of God Bless America.

July 6 – Let’s Read, Let’s Move – Washington, D.C. Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlan participated in this year’s first of four, Let’s Read! Let’s Move! summer enrichment events sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education in Washington, D.C. The Department’s Let’s Read! Let’s Move! series increases awareness of the critical importance of summer learning and encourages all adults to read to children. Teresa was joined by U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, and NBA Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Sec. Duncan, Attorney General Holder and Abdul-Jabbar read to students from area youth and learning centers who attended the event. Afterwards, Teresa lead students in games and activities, as part of First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! initiative to emphasize the importance of an active and healthy lifestyle.

July 5 – Special Olympics Homecoming – Baltimore, MD Teresa was part of Special Olympics Team USA return from the Greece games. The athletes on the Special Olympics National team were ages 16 to 60 and Teresa went around and welcomed them back and congratulated them. She chatted and mingled with them individually, spoke to them on stage – gave a brief welcome talk, signed autographs and posed for pictures at a station for an hour and just had fun with the athletes. She even danced on the floor for two songs. Team USA loved Teresa and they were really excited to see and talk with her.

Celebration – Philadelphia, PA Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlan celebrated the nation’s birthday at the Wawa Welcome America! festivities in Philadelphia, showcasing all that America's birthplace has to offer. Teresa enjoyed a Block Party in Philadelphia's Chinatown, performed in concert at the Riverfront in Camden, NJ with the Air National Band of the Mid Atlantic, participated in the Celebration of Freedom Ceremony by performing "God Bless America,” and rode on the “Salute to the Armed Forces” float in the 4th of July Parade.

June 20-24 – Duke of Edinburgh Awards – Various Cities Teresa appeared at a special event with HRH The Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex and MAO Chairman, Sam Haskell, at the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington D.C. while participating in events for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award . This program is designed to build confidence, motivation and self-worth in youth and young adults between the ages of 14 and 25. Miss America highlighted our national partnership between the U.S. Duke of Edinburgh Award and the Miss America Organization. Once a year, Sam Haskell, Chairman of the Miss America Board and President of the U.S. Duke of Edinburgh Award, arranges for Miss America to join His Royal Highness for promotional and fundraising activities for the award.

June 14-15 – Pentagon Visit – Washington, D.C. Teresa joined Heather French Henry Miss America 2000 and Sharlene Wells Hawkes Miss America 1985 for a visit at the Pentagon. The main purpose of the visit was to meet with a few military officials to discuss MAO partnering with the military to help promote and educate the public on the plight of veterans. They spent the majority of the day with Colonel Sutherland, and also met with Ms. Susan Farnsworth in the Office Secretary of Defense Public Affairs to discuss this issue. The highlight of the day was meeting with Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff. He spent about 15 minutes chatting with the Miss Americas and he also discussed the veteran issues.

June 1-3 – U.S. Army Ball – Long Beach, CA Teresa joined Miss California, Arianna Afsar, for an appearance at the 2011 Association of the U.S. Army Symposium and Army Ball in Long Beach, CA. They spent a beautiful sunny afternoon at the Long Beach Yacht Club, the perfect setting for AUSA’s Annual Family Programs Volunteer Appreciation Lunch. Teresa joined several high ranking officials in thanking these volunteers for their many hours of service to help take care of the needs of families of local soldiers. That night, Teresa joined guest of honor Lt. General Richard P. Formica and other celebrities at the Army Ball, and performed White Water Chopped Sticks.

Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlan joined 300,000 Americans as they rallied behind our troops at the American Veterans Center's 2011 National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, DC. Teresa rode down the parade route in a beautiful float, while performing "God Bless America." The parade focused on the true meaning of Memorial Day - honoring those who have fought bravely to defend America's freedom and the civil liberties of people around the world.

May 27-29 Indy 500 – Indianapolis, IN Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlan traveled to Indianapolis with our fantastic clothing sponsor, Joseph Ribkoff, Inc., participating in several events for the 100th Anniversary of the Indianapolis 500. Teresa sang the National Anthem at the Carburetion Day/Firestone Freedom 100 Race pre-festivities, rode on the Firestone Float through the streets of Indianapolis in the Indy 500 parade, and sang God Bless America at the pre-race festivities for the Indy 500 Race.

May 26 – Rite-Aid CMNH – Atlanta, GA Teresa stopped by a Rite Aid near Atlanta to help thank customers of the national drugstore chain for raising more than $50 million for Children's Miracle Network. While there, she met Parker Grelecki, a Miracle Child, who was helped by some of the money Rite Aid raised. He was jovial and outgoing, which certainly brought a big smile to Teresa’s face.

May 24 - Produce for Kids – Atlanta, GA Teresa was in Atlanta to help Produce for Kids promote healthy eating and cooking for children. with Produce for Kids is educating families about the benefits of healthy eating with fresh produce through a complete marketing campaign hosted in the produce department of all Publix stores June 2 – June 29, 2011. May 21 – American Heart Association – Omaha, NE Teresa was a surprise guest at the American Heart Association of Omaha's Heart Walk this weekend, where she welcomed participants from the stage and spoke on healthy eating. Teresa and this year’s Heart Child, Abby and her family led the one-mile walk for children. Teresa had a great time and everyone was very excited, especially the children who had been heart patients and their families.

May 16 – ANAD – Naperville, IL Teresa was in Illinois with the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associative Disorders as part of a program honoring those who are in remission from eating disorders and those who have lost their lives to eating disorders. The event took place in the Healing Garden of Edward Hospital, Linden Center. The program consisted of song, speakers - some were patients in remission, some were family, counselors and doctors, and, of course, Teresa. It was a beautiful event and Teresa spoke very powerfully. At the end of the event Teresa helped to light the candles and everyone joined in singing “Lean on Me.”

May 9-10 – Amway – Miami, FL Teresa was in Miami with Amway to promote Artistry Skincare and Cosmetics and to visit a local Boys and Girls Club. Teresa spoke to a crowd of about 60 children ranging from 5 to 16. She then posed for photos and helped them prepare cards with their dreams noted on them and then tie them to balloons. The balloons were later released into the sky.

May 2-5 - Kentucky Derby with Joseph Ribkoff, Inc. Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlan spent the week in Louisville for pre-derby events sponsored by her wardrobe provider, Joseph Ribkoff, Inc. Miss America, along with many other celebrities, was in town for a very special week that kicked off with the Derby Festival’s oldest tradition, the Pegasus Parade. Teresa joined TV stars like Raven Symone and Kate Gosselin, who shared the spotlight with distinguished military veterans on floats and inflatable parade icons. The week was topped off with Teresa attending a celebrity luncheon on Thursday afternoon at the beloved Churchill Downs.

April 29 – Miss Kentucky Fundraiser – Lexington, KY Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlan had a wonderful time as she traveled to Lexington, Kentucky and participated in events with the Miss Kentucky Scholarship Organization. Teresa, along with Miss Kentucky 2011 Djuan Trent made a joint appearance at the University of Kentucky Children’s Hospital, visiting more than a dozen children room by room. Teresa and Djuan lifted the spirits of these courageous young fighters and brought a little sunshine into their hospital rooms. That night, the Miss Kentucky Scholarship Organization held a fundraiser in celebration of the beginning of Kentucky Derby Week with the theme of “Hats Off to Miss America.”

April 16 – Nebraska Cornhuskers Game – Lincoln, NE Teresa had a truly memorable time on her recent trip home to Nebraska. She has the opportunity to attend a University of Nebraska Cornhuskers Spring Football game, where more than 67,000 fans packed the stadium to cheer on their beloved team. Teresa was beyond thrilled, as it was the first time she had ever attended a Huskers game. The crowd went wild for “their” Miss America and Teresa enjoyed signing autographs and posing for pictures with excited fans throughout the game.

April 15 – Global Youth Service Day – NYC, NY Teresa will be participated with Youth Service America for their Global Youth Service Day in NYC. The group’s youth members taught Miss America a traditional dance, showcasing an effective and fun physical activity, and introduced healthy versions of authentic Filipino food. The event was made possible by UnitedHealthcare and its UnitedHealth HEROES grant program, which positions youth as "first responders" in the battle against childhood obesity.

April 13-14 – Great American Cleanup NYC Kickoff – NYC, NY Teresa traveled to New York to participate in Keep America Beautiful's Great American Cleanup NYC kickoff event. Teresa and Miss New York's Outstanding Teen Alison Stroming, were on stage to celebrate and recognize National Volunteer Week and remind the City of New York the importance of cleaning, greening, recycling and volunteering. While on stage, they also read "The Top Ten Ways to Keep New York City Beautiful."

Teresa was in D.C. this week with the USO Metro where she visited wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Medical Center and thanked them for their service to our country. She also visited an elementary school on Ft. Belvoir to let the children know how much she appreciates the sacrifices their families have to make, as their mothers and fathers serve our country. Later that evening she attended the USO Annual Awards Dinner, which was celebrating their 70th year of service.

April 7-9 – Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals – Orlando, FL Teresa visited Orlando, Florida on behalf of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH) to promote the launch of their "May is for Miracles" fundraising campaign. She was also on hand to participate in the WalMart Walk fundraiser, thanking several corporate sponsors for their ongoing and generous support of CMNH. She also had the opportunity to meet with some amazing kids from Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Teresa wrapped up her visit by participating in the WalMart Walk in Baldwin Park with WalMart associates from several Central Florida stores. Teresa had a great time supporting CMNH and spending time with the remarkable Miracle Kids.

April 1-2 Keep America Beautiful – Philadelphia, PA Teresa had a wonderful time in Philadelphia where she participated in the Great American Cleanup with Keep America Beautiful. She joined Keep America beautiful to honor Philadelphia Mayor Michael A. Nutter and local volunteers of Keep Philadelphia Beautiful at the Token of Appreciation Awards. The awards recognized community members who are making a difference and working to make the city a more beautiful place to live. Teresa continued her commitment to KAB's "Green Starts Here" initiatives the next day at the Philly Spring Clean Up. She joined Mayor Nutter, Keep America Beautiful representatives, and thousands of volunteers to help clean up a seven mile stretch of land called Cobbs Creek Park.

March 30 – Capitol Hill Visit – Washington, D.C. Teresa was in Washington D.C. where she spread the message of the Miss America Organization's advocacy for higher education for all women. Following a meeting with the Nebraska delegation on Capitol Hill, Teresa had a substantive discussion with Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, and then met with Rep. John Kline (R-MN), Chairman of the Education and Workforce Committee, and Sen. Mike Enzi (R-WY) who is the ranking member of the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee. Teresa was also invited to speak with Jenny Yeager Kaplan, Deputy Director of the White House Council on Women and Girls. She spoke about the historical significance of the Miss America Organization as the largest provider of college scholarships to young women and Miss America's advocacy to encourage all young women to pursue college education, specifically those interested in science, technology, engineering and math.

March 25-26 – Western Women’s Summit – Santa Barbara, CA Teresa traveled to Santa Barbara where she attended and participated in the Western Women's Summit presented by the Clare Boothe Luce Policy Institute. The purpose of the conference was to prepare and promote conservative women leaders. Teresa attended morning sessions and then spoke for about a half hour at the lunch session where she shared the inspiring story of her family's success in America, the values she was taught in her upbringing, and the importance of being proud to be an American.

March 21-22 – USO Hampton Roads – Norfolk, VA Teresa spent time in Virginia visiting several Norfolk area military commands with the USO. Teresa visited Langley Air Force, the Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek USO and Naval Station Norfolk where she enjoyed meeting with military members and their families, and answering their questions. After her appearance at the Naval Station, Teresa hosted the grand re-opening of the ASYMCA/USO center at the Norfolk International Airport and then met the troops at Fort Lee.

March 14 – 18 Visit to Amway Headquarters – Grand Rapids, MI Teresa began her week-long visit to Amway's World Head Quarters in Ada, Michigan with a tour of their facilities, including the labs where the Artistry exclusively by Amway beauty products are created. Teresa even created her own lipstick and lotion in the Artistry lab and dubbed it "Sashay" after the Miss America sash. While in Michigan, Miss America Teresa Scanlan visited the Steil Center Boys & Girls Club in Grand Rapids. At the center she spoke to the kids about having goals and helped them each write down a goal, tie it to a balloon and release it to the sky for Amway's Follow Your Dreams balloon release.

March 10 – 2011 Boy Scouts Distinguished Citizen Ceremony – Oxford, MS Teresa joined Board Chairman Sam Haskell and his wife, Mary for a very prestigious event where she performed and helped salute Sam as the recipient of a distinguished honor. The BancorpSouth Conference Center was filled with past and present Boy Scouts, as well as their families, who gathered to honor Sam as the 2011 Distinguished Citizen. Teresa stated, "Sam has a heart and a passion for helping other people." She continued, "of every Eagle Scout - you are Mr. America."

March 9 – LaBonheur Children’s Hospital – Memphis, TN Teresa took time to visit LaBonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis where she met with some very special children. Fourteen-year-old Eason Pruitt, who was in a wheelchair recovering from a December car wreck, shared how he felt about her visit by saying that he met Santa Claus at the hospital in December, and as far as traditions go, "I liked Miss America better!"

March 8 – Eating Disorders Youth Mentorship Program – Boston, MA Teresa and fellow Miss America sister, Miss America 2008 Kirsten Haglund, met at the Harris Center for Eating Disorders to address a panel of about 20 participants from local high schools who met to discuss eating disorders awareness and how they can mentor and make others aware in their community about the reality of eating disorders. They participated in a discussion and Diane Von Furstenberg also joined in briefly with questions and advice for the girls. Teresa loved meeting with the students and talking to them about their concerns for eating disorders within their generation.

March 1 – National Pancake Day – Los Angeles, CA Teresa celebrated IHOP’s National Pancake Day in Los Angeles with some local titleholders competing for Miss California. She visited a local IHOP and filmed a promotional spots for KTLA. With Teresa’s help, IHOP exceeded its fundraising goal and raised a total of $2.5 million in donations for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals and other charities.

February 23-26 - Teresa’s Homecoming – Three City Tour, Nebraska Teresa traveled back to Nebraska for the first time stopping in her hometown of Gering and making her way across the state visiting, Scottsbluff, North Platte and Omaha. The state of Nebraska went wild for Teresa’s return and she received keys to three cities! She was happy to crown her successor, Miss Nebraska Nicky Haverland and to her Miss America 2011 sisters – Miss Arkansas Alyse Eady, Miss Hawaii Jalee Fuselier, Miss Oklahoma Emoly West, Miss Washington Jacquie Brown, Miss Vermont Caroline Bright and Miss Connecticut Brittany Decker join her for this very special gathering.

February 18 – Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia – Philadelphia, PA Continuing her promotional efforts for IHOP’s National Pancake Day, Teresa traveled to Philadelphia to visit Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She was joined by two giant pancake characters to entertain and bring smiles to the young patients. She also visited an IHOP that day to flip some pancakes!

February 14-16 Media in NYC While Teresa was in New York, she participated in some pre-publicity efforts for IHOP’s National Pancake Day, which benefits Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. She appeared on The Gayle King Show, America’s Nightly Scoreboard, and had an interview with fashion magazine, V Magazine. She was also able to stop by the Empire State Building to do some sight-seeing!

February 13 – Toy Fair – NYC Teresa traveled to New York City to participate in the ultimate Toy Fair, where she helped promote the 90th Anniversary Miss America Madame Alexander doll. La Casa Hermosa graciously provided Teresa with a beautiful royal blue gown, which was the inspiration for the gown the Miss America Madame Alexander doll wears. Teresa had a great time meeting with fans and collectors, who all loved the exclusive Anniversary edition of the Miss America doll. February 12 – American Signature Store Visit – Iselin, NJ Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlan visited an American Signature store this weekend in North Jersey, where she met with fans and encouraged young women to dream big with their Miss America Youth Collection furniture. February 8-10 – Artistry by Amway – Honolulu, HI Teresa made one of her first appearances on the enchanted island of Maui, Hawaii, for one of Amway’s largest annual events on behalf of Artistry, Miss America’s official skincare and cosmetic provider. She shined brightly at Diamond Club, a leadership forum that provides an opportunity for Amway’s most successful independent business owners (IBOs), to gather and celebrate Amway’s success.

February 3-6 – Taste of the NFL events – Dallas, TX Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlan celebrated her 18th birthday while participating in media events surrounding Super Bowl XLV for Taste of the NFL, including attending the big game. Teresa met celebrities and participated in interviews with sports and entertainment outlets. She was honored to attend Taste of the NFL's Party with a Purpose, where she was on hand to welcome guests, and was presented with a birthday cake, made by Buddy the Cake Boss and his crew! Teresa had an unforgettable birthday weekend, which ended in watching the big game as the special guest of Ted and Shannon Skokos. She was also happy to help Taste of the NFL raise more than $1 million this weekend to be donated to food banks across America!

She visited our soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Bethesda Naval Hospital to thank them for their commitment to our country. She also attended a USO Volunteer Appreciation Reception at Dulles Airport, where she had the opportunity to thank the men and women who are so dedicated to our soldiers.

Jan. 28 – Holy Family Regional School – Ventnor, NJ While Teresa was visiting the Miss America Organization's national office, she stopped by the Holy Family Regional School to talk to PreK -8th graders about the importance of education and making the right choices. The children presented Teresa with handmade birthday cards and a bouquet of roses to celebrate her upcoming 18th birthday!

Miss America helped ARTISTRY welcome beauty and Hispanic media from across the country to experience the latest in luxury skincare and beauty advancements, along with a few fun Miss America picture and "crown yourself" simulations!
