Bernie Wayne Performing Arts Award

History of the Award
Mr. Bernie Wayne wrote the song, "There She Is, Miss America" in 1954 and introduced it to Miss America officials shortly thereafter. The song, first sung at the 1955 Miss America Pageant by newcomer Bert Parks became a national icon associated with Miss America competitions down to the grass roots. Mr. Wayne first offered the $2,500 award in 1993, and the legacy was carried on by his foundation upon his death.

Governance
The winner is determined by the national panel of judges during the traditional Miss America competitions.

Eligibility Requirements
The award is presented to a national Miss America contestant wishing to pursue a career in the performing arts. The winner must have "performing arts" as a stated ambition on her fact sheet for competition at the national level. The woman may or may not be a Top Ten Finalist, but must compete at the national level.

Selection of Recipient
The winner will be the contestant with the highest talent score among those women with "performing arts" as a stated ambition.

Notification of Winner
The winner will be announced final week of Miss America competitions. She may be asked to attend a photo opportunity with Mrs. Wayne.

Disbursement of Funds
Disbursement of funds will follow the Rules and Regulations of the Miss America Organization.
