Leonard C. Horn Award for Legal Studies
The Award
The Leonard C. Horn Award for Legal Studies was established in 1998 to honor former Chief Executive Officer of the Miss America Organization, Leonard C. Horn. This award is made available for women competing at the local, state and/or national level of competition that are pursuing a career in the field of law. A new application must be submitted each year and previous recipients may apply.
Criteria
National, State, or Local contestants (past or present) who have been accepted to or are currently attending an accredited school of law.
Guidelines for Grant
Leonard C. Horn Awards for Legal Studies will be granted annually, if there are qualified applicants, to those women in the Miss America Pageant system who meet the requirements for a grant of scholarship. This scholarship is available to women that competed within the system from 1993 to present on the State, Local or National level of competition regardless of whether a title was won. The Scholarship Committee will review all applications for scholarships and will award one or more scholarships per year depending upon the qualifications of applicants.
Applicants will be considered for the award based upon a combination of factors including, but not limited to, grade point average (college/university and law school), class rank, LSAT score, extra curricular activities, and financial aid requirements household income and level of participation.

Grants are renewable. Applicants are encouraged to apply each year.
Applications must be received by June 30th in order to be given favorable consideration. Please make sure you have all your information before you apply. We will not accept an incomplete application under any circumstances. Applications received after the June 30th deadline will be rejected, and a new application must be submitted after January 1st of the following year.
Applicants will be notified the first week of September whether they have been selected as a scholarship recipient. Scholarship winners will receive a letter in regards to potential tax implications of this award. Scholarship winners are encouraged to discuss inclusion of the scholarship in their income with their tax preparer.
Disbursement of funds
Disbursement of funds will follow the Scholarship Rules & Regulations of the Miss America Organization.
