Marching Band Scholarships
These scholarships were initiated in the 1990s as part of the Miss America Organization's effort to extend scholarship giving to people outside of its network of competitions. These awards are presented to students who participated in the Miss America Parade as part of high school marching bands.
The judging for the Miss America Parade determines the winning bands. Awards of $5,000, $3,000, $2,000 and $1,000 will be presented to the high school bands winning first through fourth place in the Parade. The band director and/or school administrator are responsible for selecting a student or students to win scholarships from the award.
Students who receive the Marching Band Scholarships may be either male or female, but must be seniors in high school. They must also be band members who participated in the Miss America Parade.
The high school may select one student to receive all the funds or may split the funds into separate scholarships. Band directors must contact the Miss America Parade Committee prior to the student's graduation to confirm that the funds have been awarded.
The Miss America Parade Committee will occasionally send a representative to make the scholarship presentation. However, due to challenges of distance, etc., the award will most likely be presented at the student's high school graduation during the special awards ceremonies.
The Parade Committee Scholarship Fund will provide a check or checks to the winning student's college or university. Any school invoice will be paid, and funds can be applied against tuition and room & board
