Miss State Scholar
The Miss State Scholar Award was established in 1998 as part of the Miss America Organization's initiative to increase scholarship giving at the state and local levels. An award of $1,000 will be offered to one woman in each state, competing at the state level, for academic excellence.
This award will be administered exclusively by the
Scholarship America.
National office will notify the state executive director who can plan the award ceremony as part of his or her state pageant.
This competition is opened only to those competing at the state level. State pageant officials are responsible for verifying eligibility of recipients. Each applicant must complete an application, along with a complete, official transcript of grades, as specified on the application form.
Candidates will be evaluated strictly on academics, though Scholarship America will have the ability to properly weight the grades in terms of the course content, academic standing of the institution, and other factors which are part of the normal evaluation process in admission procedures.
Applicants must submit official transcripts of the immediate prior two years
(4 semesters) of academic study. These transcripts will be accompanied by the Miss America State Scholarships application. There is one application for the Miss State Scholar and the State Community Service Award.
The specific deadlines for submission are determined by Scholarship America, and the Miss America Organization, and state directors will be notified.
Disbursements will be handled by the Miss America Organization. Funds may be used by winners as set forth in the scholarship rules and regulations of the recipients' individual state programs.
A contestant may not win both the State Community Service Scholarship and the Miss State Scholar award. Top consideration will be given to the State Community Service Award. If one contestant ranks highest for both awards, she will be selected as the winner of the State Community Service Scholarship. The next best scholar will be the recipient of the Miss State Scholar.
