Katie Elliott

Miss Maine 2017

Age: 22

Hometown: Scarborough, Maine

Platform Issue: F.L.A.G. (Female Leadership in American Government)

Talent: Vocal

College Major: Psychology

Scholastic Ambition: To obtain an M.S. in Public Policy and become a lobbyist for Veterans’ Affairs

Secret Wish or Dream: I would be honored to sing the “National Anthem” at a Boston Red Sox game.

My Inspiration: As one of the highest-ranking women in the Senate, Susan Collins inspires me, because she is a strong leader who does what’s best for her constituency. She is not a polarizing figure, as she is willing to cross party lines.

Bio: Katie has always had an interest in political systems, dating back to seventh grade when she was elected Class President. As she’s matured, Katie noticed the gender disparity within our state and federal governments and how important it is to have equal representation, as policy affects everyone. Role models can heavily influence the lives and interests of young people and this disparity may cause school-aged girls to not believe politics is a viable career path. Katie feels there is no better time in history than now to discuss what is happening in our governments and work to decrease the gender gap so everyone’s voice is heard.
